Lisa Baldwin founded Learning Through Song, the predecessor to Music, Minds, and Motion, in 1996. She has presented her interactive music, reading, and movement program at schools, libraries, child development centers, festivals, and senior centers in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and more recently in New Jersey where she and her husband spent three years as the presidential couple at Centenary University. She has been a K-8 classroom teacher since 1978 and certified in Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia, and New Jersey. Lisa was the 2005-06 Teacher of the Year for Cove Creek Elementary School in Vilas, NC, the 2005-06 Watauga County Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, and runner-up for teacher of the year for High Point Elementary School in Bristol, VA in 2013-14 and 2014-15. In 2014-15 she was a semi-finalist for the McGlothlin Teacher of Excellence in VA and was named A Teacher Who Made a Difference while teaching at High Point. In 2007 Lisa was inducted into the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers’ Society International.
Since 1984 she has been a professional musician and songwriter, performing folk, country, bluegrass, and original music. (For more on her professional music career, see the “about” tab on www.baldwinhaney.com.) Lisa taught music classes for five elementary schools in Smyth County, VA during the 2015-2016 school year. She has led workshops for public school teachers, librarians, and child care and senior care providers, and she has participated in numerous grants. She holds a BS in Education with a minor in Music from Auburn University, and an MA in Appalachian Studies with a focus on culture from Appalachian State University.
Ms. B. (as her students named her) performs traditional folk, country, and bluegrass music with her husband, Dave. She has one son, James William Green, who is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and is currently teaching English in Spain. Lisa has one large dog- child named Jefferson and two cats, Molly and Prizzi. She loves music, reading, gardening, bicycling, traveling, and fishing and playing in the New River. Lisa and Dave live in a historic farmhouse that sits in the shadow of Three Top Mountain on a picturesque bend in the North Fork of the New River in Ashe County, North Carolina.
